Every time winter comes around I start rethinking my life choices… how could this be happening? The cold and me just don’t get along and that’s not changing anytime soon. If I didn’t love this area so much, I would have left for a warmer state a long time ago!
Immediately the temperatures drop, I’m wondering when summer will arrive. I start thinking of all the ways I can just not do anything but curl up and sleep until the weather behaves LOL!
Unfortunately this hibernation mode also affects my excitement levels for working out consistently and taking care of my fitness goals of moving my body throughout the week.
Am I the only one who suffers from low motivation during wintertime?

Last year was the first winter that was actually exciting from a fitness perspective because of the ASA programs, specifically the boot camp that gave me a great boost and jolt of energy.
I’m creeping up on this winter season feeling optimistic in my mind but the struggle is real body wise to get up and get into class!!
Surely there must be an explanation for this drop in motivation… I have a feeling it’s because I went to Ghana, enjoyed that amazing sun and came back to weather that was not poppin at all! HA! I’m still partially in Ghana chilling by the beach, soaking up the natural sunlight that makes my skin glow.
Real talk, I did research on this and came across a possible explanation for a condition called Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) It’s something I’d heard about among some of my African friends and it makes sense that the season you are in can affect your mood. It states that this is found less in countries that have sunshine all year round!

When I started to think about it further, I realized that most of the time during winter, I’m somewhere warm… I think intuitively I just knew the weather was not going to be helpful for my mood.
So now I find myself here during winter again and I’m trying to figure out how I can remain consistent with my fitness program without the sun shining during the day.
Even though summer is far away… I’ll do my best to show up remembering that summer is just around the corner!
How are you all doing during the winter with your fitness goals? Hope to see you soon at in class!
I'm struggling with the cold, too! I think the heat I make in the house during a class is going to need to be my motivation to go to class. I can make it summer in my living room with ASA! The music, the energy, the immediate sweat. I'm going to pretend it's summer during ASA! class.
