I was not moving my bottom half, as if she couldn’t see me. “You can’t hide, Rachel!” Akousa yelled. I was taking a break and glad I was caught. “Don’t hide”, she reminded us all. Take it for what you need it to mean this week.
"Do what you gotta do!"
I was struggling with biceps, arms up business, and I lost where we were in the choreo but I was still doing something. That’s when Akousa caught me with a scrunched face of pain, “RACHEL, do what you gotta do!” This class is so powerful because in a sense, we’re in the comfort of privacy in our home, and yet we are still seen. Akousa gets louder and hurls energy at us when we need it most. I can feel the force! This is truly a gift in ways I can’t describe. What Aksoua chants at us in class we can use as mantras for life, or at the very least as mantras for the week. So, do what you gotta do this week.
"Pick your head up"
This doesn’t apply to all exercise but it was said to me today and it struck me. It’s so simple. I literally needed to pick up my head in class but I’m happy to use it all week as a metaphorical pick-me-up.
What are some of the things ASA! teachers have said to you during class that stuck with you beyond the literal sense?
